It is made of a float which is moving along the separation line between water and light fluids. When the level of light fluids is increased, the float is falling and getting near the pipe opening. The device is equipped with a hose, belt or disc that passes the water surface and binds fats or oils to its own surface. The collected oil or fat is removed using a scraper and then drained into the tank. For the extraction of more complex fat the device has a set of heaters to soften the fat and facilitate its removal.
